Blue Cross Announces the Launch of “2016 Happy Teens, Full of Fun Programme”

For the fifth consecutive year, Blue Cross sponsored the “Happy Teens, Full of Fun Programme” organised by the Hong Kong PHAB Association. The 2016 programme was officially launched on 26th March at the Fortune Metropolis Mall in Hung Hom.

The launch ceremony was officiated by Mr. K. H. Woo, Director of the Hong Kong PHAB Association, Ms. Melissa Pang, MH, JP, Chairman of the Committee on the Promotion of Civic Education, Mr. Patrick Wan, Managing Director of Blue Cross, and popular local artiste Mr. James Ng, the programme’s ambassador. During the ceremony, a number of participants also received recognition for their outstanding performance in the 2015 programme.

The “Happy Teens, Full of Fun Programme” provides an interactive platform for both able-bodied and disabled teenagers to equip themselves for future challenges in life. Last year, the programme targeted specifically at tertiary students with disabilities, enabling them to learn different skills to strengthen their competitiveness for future job opportunities. This year, the programme is tailored for younger teenagers, with innovative and interesting after-school activities and workshops arranged for around 100 students in secondary school or special schools. Topics covered include aerial photography, baking, leather goods making, jazz, acapella singing, etc. The programme enables the participants to explore their own interest and potential at an earlier stage of life.

James Ng, the programme’s ambassador for five consecutive years, lent his support again, taking time out of his extremely busy schedule to attend the event. In addition to joining an interview session hosted by several participants who completed the DJ eloquence training last year, James performed the theme song he wrote specially for the programme, “Count On Me”, to inspire the young people.

Four game booths themed on social integration and manned by Blue Cross’ volunteer team were set up at the venue, spreading the important message of social integration in an interactive and lively manner.

Blue Cross Continues to Sponsor HKYWCA's "ChariTea" Charity Programme

Women play a vital role in our families, businesses, and society as mothers, sisters, bosses, workers, and leaders of all kinds. In celebration of International Women's Day on 8th March, Blue Cross once again showed its support for women by sponsoring the "ChariTea" Charity Programme organised by the Hong Kong Young Women's Christian Association ("HKYWCA").

"ChariTea" Charity Programme aims to promote the message of "caring for the community, caring for staff members, and caring for oneself". It calls upon everyone to extend care to the women in their lives, who devote themselves to their families and our society. To echo this spirit, complimentary red-date tea bags were distributed by Blue Cross to its staff members and customers on 8th March, 2016 – a small but thoughtful giveaway to show its appreciation and care.

This was the seventh staging of the "ChariTea" since its inception in 2010. On the International Women's Day every year, volunteers of HKYWCA visit different neighbourhoods to distribute red-date tea bags and show their support. All funds raised will be used for HKYWCA's women and family-related services such as single parent assistance, counselling, and psychological health services.

Blue Cross Sponsors DJ Eloquence Training for Disabled Youth

DJ Eloquence Training is one of the new and exciting initiatives in this year’s Happy Teens, Full of Fun Programme organized by the Hong Kong PHAB Association and sponsored by Blue Cross. The participants are required to attend a total of 4 intensive training sessions coached by Mr. Leslie Yan, a professional DJ and Emcee, to learn public speaking skills, such as the language expression, the rhythm, pace and tone of voice, as well as the production of a radio show, including guest invitation, research work and script writing.

After completing the training course, participants are equipped with the fundamental skills on public speaking. In making the programme more meaningful, participants were given an exceptional opportunity to host an online radio programme by inviting guests of their preference for an interview on a topic of “BElive Yourself「活出真我」”. This training aims to enhance the communication skills and gain confidence of the participants to get well prepared for their social and career life.

A total of 4 online radio programmes have been conducted fruitfully. The 4 guests invited for the interview come from all walks of life including Mr. Anakin Wong, an experienced dubbing artist, Mr. Ray Leung (a.k.a. Lwoavie), one of the best-seller novel authors, Mr. Patrick Wan, Blue Cross’ Managing Director and Mr. William Tang, a famous fashion designer. The participants enjoyed greatly throughout the interviews, and the sharing of valuable experiences from the guests has indeed given them lots of inspiration and encouragement to plan for a bright future of their own.

Mr. Patrick Wan, Managing Director of Blue Cross, said, “It was a pleasure to be invited as one of the interview guests for this meaningful programme. I’m happy to see the participants applied what they have learned from the DJ Eloquence training course and performed very well for the first time to being a host of a radio programme. Through this practical training, I wish all participants found it useful to build their confidence in public speaking, and utilize the skills to equip themselves for a better future.”

Anna, a member of Blue Cross’ corporate team, finished the whole walk with her pug “BB”, saying that the meaningful event provided a great get-together for dog lovers and their pets. “Apart from giving a chance for me to exercise outdoors with my dog, it allowed us to help improve the living conditions of many homeless dogs by raising funds for them,” she added.

The SPCA Dogathon is the largest walkathon of its kinds in Hong Kong with the longest history. This year, more than 2,600 dog lovers and close to 1,500 dogs joined the walk. They enjoyed a pleasant Sunday against the beautiful backdrop of Hong Kong Disneyland Resort while contributing to the charitable event. The walk has raised HK$1.4 million to fund the SPCA’s adoption and rehoming services that will help more dogs find their new home.

Blue Cross living up to its caring company status

Cheque presentation to SIG tour members recently returned from their trip to China. Each of the insured received a Human Swine Flu cash allowance of HK$5,000.

Customer's health and well-being are always our first priority here at Blue Cross. At the onset of Human Swine Flu (Influenza A H1N1) outbreak back in April, we thought we were simply doing what a socially responsible corporate citizen would be doing by offering customers extra benefits coverage against the disease. Turned out we were the first company stepping forward to do that. As Human Swine Flu continued to spread in June, a total of 25 group travellers with Sincere International Travel Services (SIG) became the first tour from Hong Kong placed in mandatory quarantine in China. Upon their return to Hong Kong, Patrick Wan, Managing Director, went in person to meet with some of the tour members to express his deepest concern. A Human Swine Flu cash allowance of HK$5,000 was given to each of the insured.
