Q:   What are the differences between "Household Protection Insurance" and "Fire Insurance"?
 
A:   Household Protection Insurance provides "All Risks" insurance cover on household contents such as furniture, electrical appliances, clothing, valuables, personal effects and household improvement on walls, ceilings, floorings and doors which are carried out by the Insured.
 
Fire Insurance provides "Named Perils" insurance cover on any loss or damage caused by fire or any other named perils to any kind of property insured, particularly building structure such as walls, windows, ceiling, floor, landlords' fixtures and fittings.
 
Scope of coverage of Household Protection Insurance and Fire Insurance is different but complementary. To have comprehensive protection, you are recommended to take out both policies.

 
 
Q:   If the insured premise has been unoccupied for a prolonged period, will the claim be affected?
 
A:   If the insured premise remains unoccupied for more than 60 consecutive days, the cover will be limited to the named perils such as fire, explosion, lightning etc. except burglary.
 
 
Q:   How do you determine the claim settlement amount when I claim indemnity on Basic Coverage and Extension?
 
A:   Whether to reinstate, repair or replace the claim item will be at the Company's discretion during the claim process.
 
For furniture, furnishings, home appliances and household improvement not more than five years old, this policy will pay for the full replacement, repair and reinstatement cost. Other than that, the Company will indemnify the market value of the claimed property at the time of loss after reduction of depreciation.
 
If the claim item cannot be substantiated with documentary proof or is not replaced after accident, settlement with depreciation will be applied.
 
Rate of depreciation shall be determined at the Company’s discretion or by the Loss Adjuster.

 
 
Q:   What is the coverage of Public Liability?
 
A:   Public Liability Insurance provides cover on accidental bodily injury or property damage to the third party as a result of the act of negligence or omission on the part of you or your family member. Public Liability also covers the legal costs and expenses recoverable by any claimant from you or your family member.
 
 
Q:   If the household contents are deliberately destroyed, will the claim be affected?
 
A:   Any loss or damage caused by the wilful act, deliberate act or recklessness of you, your family member and/or your domestic helper will not be covered.
